Be Da Loca! Hello, we are TRI.BE!
TRI.BE (Hangul: 트라이비; Japanese: トライビー; pronounced as "try-be") is a six-member girl group co-managed by TR Entertainment and Mellow Entertainment. Originally as seven, they debuted on February 17, 2021 with the single album TRI.BE Da Loca.
Etymology[]
Their name is a combination of the words "Tri" (short for Triangle) which means the perfection and "Be" which means 'the perfect existence'.[1]
History[]
Pre-debut[]
On September 23, 2018, Kim Songsun and Kim Hyunbin was introduced as a trainee and member of Banana Culture's pre-debut group Banana Culture Newkid,[2] along with Kim Jihye, Shin Minseo, Kim Nayoung and Maika. Unfortunately, the group was assumed to have disbanded after 3 of its 4 members left the agency.
In March 2020, Kelly became a contestant on the Chinese survival show Youth With You 2. She was eliminated in episode 10 after ranking 64th place.
On June 3, 2020, Lionheart Entertainment trainee Kim Hyun Bin uploaded her first vlog on YouTube,[3] following with six other trainees made an appearance in different vlogs or covers. The seventh member, Kelly, made her first appearance in a vlog on September 9.[4]
On August 21, they officially started introducing the 7 trainees under the tentative group name LIONGIRLS, starting with Japanese trainee Sumire,[5] followed by Kim Hyunbin on August 25,[6] Chinese trainee Jia on August 28,[7] Bang So Eun on September 2,[8] Kim Jin Ha on September 7,[9] Taiwanese trainee Kelly on September 10,[10] and finally Kim Song Sun on November 16.[11]
On December 29, 2020, it was revealed that producer Shinsadong Tiger, who is also the creator of EXID, and Universal Music would be debuting a new girl group in early 2021.[12]
2021: Debut with "TRI.BE Da Loca", "CONMIGO", VENI VIDI VICI[]
On January 4, 2021 at midnight, their official SNS released an official logo motion video, revealing the group's logo and their name to be TRI.BE.[13] It was confirmed later that day the group would debut in February 2021.[1]
On February 1, 2021, TRI.BE released a teaser and concept photo for their debut single album, "TRI.BE Da Loca." On February 17, the single album, along with its title track "DOOM DOOM TA", were released.
On the midnight of May 1, the group released the first teaser image for their second single album, "CONMIGO".[14] The single album, along with its title track "RUB-A-DUM", was released on May 18.
On September 25, an image teaser posted on TRI.BE's official Twitter announced that the group will release their first mini album, VENI VIDI VICI on October 12 with "WOULD YOU RUN" as the title track.[15] Member SongSun write the lyrics of the track "GOT YOUR BACK", making the first album where a TRI.BE member contributed to the songwriting.
2022: JinHa's hiatus, "Leviosa"[]
On May 31, 2022, TR Entertainment announced that member JinHa will be going on hiatus for health-related reasons, and the group will promote as six for the time being.[16]
On July 20, a teaser photo posted across the group's social medias announced their third single album, titled "Leviosa", would be released on August 9.[17]
2023: W.A.Y, "Wonderland (English Ver.)", JinHa's departure, "The Little Drummer Girls"[]
On January 19, 2023, a performance video for the B-side track "Witch" was released, as a pre-release for TRI.BE's upcoming comeback.[18]
On May 17, TRI.BE announced that they would be releasing their first English digital single "Wonderland (English Ver.)" on May 26.[19]
On January 25, TRI.BE released a teaser image, announcing their second mini album W.A.Y would be released on February 14.[20]
On July 21, TR Entertainment announced that JinHa departed from the group after being on hiatus for over a year.[21]
On November 21, the group announced that they would be releasing their special single "The Little Drummer Girls" on November 28.[22]
2024: "Diamond"[]
On February 1, 2024, the group announced that they would be releasing their fourth single album "Diamond" on February 20.[23]
